Crack

I’m visiting a friend at the moment who wanted to try Crack – an easy chocolate caramel snack which is very trendy and quite addictive – hence the name. The trendiness is due to the Chat 10 Looks 3 podcast which has seen the Crack recipe go viral.

This recipe, with a couple of modifications, was taken from the podcast and was posted by Jo Waugh.

Ingredients

1 box of Salada crackers

225 g unsalted butter chopped into small pieces

1 cup lightly packed brown sugar

1 large pinch sea salt

1/2 tsp vanilla extract

225 g dark/milk chocolate chips

1 cup toasted nuts

  1. Preheat oven to 175°C (less for a fan forced oven, 160°C) and line a baking tray with aluminium foil and then baking paper. The baking tray is best if it is the size of 4 x 3 Saladas or 30 x 40 cm.
  2. Toast nuts.
  3. Cover tray with a layer of Saladas.
  4. Place butter and sugar in a medium saucepan and melt over medium heat; then bring to the boil for 3 minutes , stirring occasionally.
  5. Remove from heat, add vanilla and salt.
  6. Immediately pour caramel over Saladas and use the back of a spoon or pallet knife to spread evenly before it sets.
  7. Put the baking tray in the oven for 15 minutes, check frequently so caramel doesn’t burn.
  8. Remove from oven and sprinkle chocolate chips over caramel. Cover with foil and leave for 5 minutes till chocolate has melted. Spread chocolate evenly over caramel.
  9. Sprinkle nuts of your choice across the chocolate and leave to cool. If in a hurry can put in the frige to set quicker.
  10. Break crack into pieces and devour.
  11. Can be stored in an airtight container for up to 1 week.
